Here are a few simple steps to create the gorgeous flag banners used in our Knot Fall 2010 fashion feature Mix Masters -- check it out on newsstands now!
To cut a triangle shaped flag, make a thin line with pencil on a piece of 8 1/2 by 11 letter sized scrapbook paper. (It's easier to first create a sample and use that one to trace over and over so that all the flags are the same shape and size.) After you've cut out several flags, sew the top of the flag onto the white ribbon with a few delicate loops. (The paper flags will stay on the ribbon better when sewed on rather than taped or glued, and there won't be any messy residue!) Repeat the process until you have a long string of flags and hang up the banner. TIP: Keep in mind that 3 flags with space in between will fit on each yard, so if you're buying a spool of 20 yards, make sure you have 60 sheets of paper. Photo credit: Daymion Mardel.
