How-To: Place Card Napkin Rings

Dovepost

Even the artistically challenged will have no trouble whi¬¬pping up these charming personalized place card napkin rings from Elizabeth Woodson of Elizabeth W. Gift Baskets and Shindig 411. We chose a white dove design, but you can pick whatever shape and color coordinates best with your theme. Bonus: They double as fun favors.

Materials
Polymer sculpting clay like Fimo or Sculpey
Rolling pin
Cookie cutter in shape of your choice
Wooden skewer
Colored pencils, paint pens or markers
Decorations of your choice (rhinestones, feathers, tiny beads, etc.)
Ribbon

Step 1: Knead the sculpting clay for about a minute, until it's pliable. On a smooth work surface, flatten it out with a rolling pin to 1/8" thick.

Step 2: Cut out shapes with cookie cutter. Then, place them on a parchment-lined backing sheet and use a wooden skewer to poke a hole in the top of each one.

Step 3: Bake according to directions on the package; generally about 275 degrees for 15 or 20 minutes.

Step 4: When the shapes are completely cooled, use colored pencils, paint pens or markers suitable for ceramics to write each guest's name on them. Glue on diamond rhinestones, craft store feathers, tiny beads and anything else you'd like to decorate with. (It's easier to write before adding any decorations.)

Step 5: Thread a pretty ribbon through the hole and tie it around a rolled napkin.

I always think about what a guest can do with their favor once they leave the wedding. These (especially the doves,) would make excellent Christmas ornaments. Or they could be tacked to cubicle walls or even put on a keyring. Having a hole punched in them really does make them versatile and useful.
