How-To: Personalized Menus

Finalmenu

Give your menus a personalized touch with this elegant project from Nichelle Luc of Details a la carte, a custom invitation company. These are great for a wedding, rehearsal dinner or shower. We love this project because there's so much room for imagination -- every piece of it is customizable, meaning the result can be perfectly coordinated with the rest of your wedding.

Materials
Cardstock for menus (white or cream is best)
Cardstock for name tags (any color on which short type is legible)
Colored cardstock for back layer (optional)
Hole punch, scissors and glue
3/8" ribbon

Step1menu

Step 1: Create a document in the size you'd like for your menu (ours is 5" x 7") using a desktop publishing program like Microsoft Word. Type your menu contents using fonts, colors and graphics that fit with your wedding style. Be sure to leave enough room at the top (about 1 1/2”) for the name tag.

Step 2: Cut the cardstock to whatever size you've chosen, and print the menus onto it. (If your paper is metallic, it's best to use a laser printer.)

Step 3: Create another document with the guest names (your word processor should have a template for this). Make each tag 1" x 3 1/2". If you're offering different meal options, choose a different cardstock color to represent each one. Then, print tags onto the color that corresponds with the meal each guest has selected.

Step2menu

Step 4: After cutting out the tags, place them where you'd like them to lay at the top of the menus, and punch a hole on each side through both the tag and the menu.

Step 5: Cut the ribbon to 6 1/2" pieces, with diagonal edges for a clean look. Thread the ribbon through both the menu and the tag, with the ends coming out the front.

Step 6: Optional: Cut the back layer cardstock to 5 1/4" x 7 1/4", and glue the menu onto it.

Alternate design option: Instead of punching holes on each side of the name tags, cut out a 1 1/4" x 3 3/4" cardstock back layer and glue the name tag to it. Then, glue the ribbon across the top of the menu, extending all the way to the back on each side. Finally, glue the name tag to the menu on top of the ribbon, and then glue the entire thing to the back menu layer. (Pictured at top left)
