Put a twist on the classic save-the-date magnet with this bright project from Chelsea of the adorable blog and Etsy store Paper*Cakes. Materials Paper trimmer Scissors Ruler Border punch or decorative edging scissors Cardstock sheet measuring 4" x 6" Cardstock sheet measuring 1" x 6 1/2" Magnet sheet with adhesive back Glue lines (order them from Amazon) Adhesive runner or double-sided tape Embellishments of your choice Step 1: Using your border punch or decorative edged scissors, decorate one edge of your 4" x 6" piece of cardstock. Step 2: Starting on the undecorated edge of the 4" x 6" piece of cardstock, measure 1" and 3 1/2" from the bottom. Score your paper on these lines with the point of your scissors, being careful not to cut all the way through. This will make your envelope easy to fold later. Step 3: Apply a glue line to each edge of your cardstock underneath the 1" score line. Place your glue line as close to the edge as possible so that the magnet is sure to fit inside. It is very important to use glue lines for this step and not an adhesive runner or other type of adhesive because the glue lines provide the firmest hold and are narrow in width. Step 4: Fold your bottom flap up and adhere. Then fold the top flap down. Step 5: Fold the 1" x 6 1/2" piece of cardstock around your envelope. This will be what holds the envelope closed. When folding, be sure to leave enough room so that the strip can slip easily on and off the envelope once the magnet is inside. Apply glue and affix one end to the other. Step 6: Embellish your envelope and strip as desired. In the example, pearls were placed on the scalloped edges of the envelope, and a pink flower on the outside of the strip. Both of these items were found at a dollar store. Get creative -- you can use almost anything to embellish! Note that no pearls were placed on the scallops where the strip sits because that would make the envelope difficult to close. Step 7: Cut your magnet into a 2" x 3 1/2" piece. You may be able to find magnets precut to this size at a craft store, but if not, the larger sheets work just as well. The sample save-the-date was created with design software and then printed out and affixed to the magnet along with a foam heart sticker. You can also create your save-the-date by hand drawing, stamping, paper piercing or any other method you prefer. Step 8: Place the save-the-date magnet in your envelope and slip the strip around it.
